Approach to Teaching
I have greatly enjoyed teaching since 2003. In my teaching, I use strategies (such as peer instruction) and tools (such as Tophat) to help students gain conceptual understanding of the material and improved problem-solving skills. Peer instruction is useful as 'nothing clarifies ideas better than explaining them to others', while Tophat gives students aligned and prompt feedback, making it easier for them to self-regulate the learning process.
I also use formative assessment on my own teaching by providing the students a medium to give me anonymous feedback on the lessons, allowing me to adjust my teaching to enhance the learning experience for my students. As I gain experience I continue a reflective practice and plan to incorporate different techniques into my lessons such as 'flipped' classes and interactive online resources.
